About Me

Welcome to Sally Wood Photography!  I hope you enjoy viewing these photographs as much as I did taking them!

My motto is,  “ You don’t take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it.”  ~ Author Unknown

I have lived, worked and raised my family here in Northern Virginia for the past 22 years.  I hail orginally from the midwest, Minnesota, but thanks to the military have traveled throughout the United States and Europe.

My journey with photography began when my sons were growing up playing sports.  I soon became very adept at anticipating the next play in baseball, and catching the swim stroke at just the right moment.   Years went by and I upgraded my Nikon cameras and lenses,  and learned photo editing techniques.   I enjoy nature photography as well as natural light portaiture in addition to anything sports related.

Business wise, I specialize in children, families, and wedding/engagement photography.

I am member of PPA, Professional Photographers of America, and am a charter founder and Gold Member of the Northern Virginia Professional Photographer’s Association, the only professional and pro-path association in eastern Prince William County.  Please visit us at www.nvppa.com.

I would be happy to discuss your photography needs and desires with you.   Please call me at 703-927-7562 or email at sallywoodphotography@comcast.net.

  6. Thanks for following, you’ve got a great blog here!

  7. Sometimes I use the WordPress Reader with a random topic just to find interesting things. Your “Mother and Child” picture grabbed me. Very well done. I think the topic I punched up was “family” — in case you were wondering. You have a good eye for snapping pictures.

  8. Thanks for visiting and following my blog. I am not a great photographer, but I’m working on it! I admire your photography and your tenacity to improve your skills.

    • HI JoAnn, I will enjoy seeing your posts and your images… it is a work in progress, and at this time I year I reflect back to where I was a year ago with my photography, and am excited to see how I have improved… never feel like I am improving fast enough, but like you said tenacity goes a long way… lol!

  9. I am new to this environment and have been wandering looking at what other people have posted. It is a bit daunting and intimidating to share and express yourself to the masses. Your Cardinal picture reminded me that its just people and stop sweating it. Looking forward to more of your pictures! Thank you for following!

    • Hello there, exactly, we all have started somewhere, and I must say I am not much of a “blogger” , but do enjoy sharing my photos! I have found that a consistent pattern of posting really helps build traffic, etc.. it is fun, and at this time of the year I always like to look back a year ago, and see how I have progressed! Happy Blogging!! Sally

    • Oh well,, we are all learning everyday right? I am sure I will learn from you! Your blog is showing up in German to me.. is that correct?

      • Hi Sally,
You’re right, my blog “Pit’s Bilderbuch” is mainly in German: sorry. As I wrote on the “about page”:
“For my English-speaking readers: I apologize for almost always writing in German. If you need help in translating, the “Fox Lingo” Add-on for Mozilla’s Firefox or the translating function of Google might prove somewhat helpful even if my style of writing, with parentheses within parentheses doesn’t lend itself well to automatic translation. Sometimes though, I regret to say, you’ll only get gibberish using any automatic translation. If you need help and would want something translated, just contact me.”
I hope you’ll enjoy following that blog all the same. And don’t hesitate to ask me in case there are questions.
        Take care,
        Pit

      • Well, I did study German in college,, so we’ll see how I do!!!
